CineMaps helps you discover real-world filming locations from movies and navigate to them. We collect as little personal information as possible.
Account information
If you create an account, we store your email address to sign you in and sync saved data. Guest browsing requires no personal information.
Name
If you sign in with Apple or Google, the name that provider gives us is saved with your account so we can show it in your profile. It is used for app functionality only and is never used for tracking.
User ID
A unique account identifier is stored to sync saved places, photos, reports, and blocks. It is used for app functionality only and is not used for tracking.
Saved data
Favorites, visited locations, and your watchlist are stored on-device only for guests. When signed in, they are also stored securely to sync across devices. Signed-in accounts can also save location photos (see below).
Photos
When signed in, you can add a photo of a filming location from your camera or photo library, along with a caption. The photo file and caption are stored on Supabase Storage and shown to other users in the app. Each photo is limited to 5 MB, and each account can save up to 20 photos. Deleting your account permanently removes those photos.
Other user content
Photo captions, location tips, location suggestions, and content reports are stored with your account so we can show them in the app and review reports within 24 hours.
Location
With permission, precise and—where available—approximate location is used on-device for nearby spots and directions. We do not save your location as a record in our database, but the Google Maps software inside the app receives your location in order to draw the map and give directions. Photos you upload may contain location information saved by your camera.
How we use information
We use information only to provide and improve CineMaps, including showing locations, directions, progress, and photo details.
Hosting and services
We do not sell personal information. We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Accounts, saved places, reports, blocks, and photos are hosted on Supabase (Authentication, Postgres, and Storage). The Google Maps software inside the app collects a device identifier plus crash, performance, and interaction data for analytics, as described in Google’s privacy policy. Movie data comes from The Movie Database (TMDB). Maps come from Google Maps. Address suggestions come from Photon (Komoot) and OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Those features are subject to their respective terms.
Your choices
- Browse without an account.
- Delete your account at any time from Profile. This permanently removes your account and associated saved data and photos.
- Revoke camera, photo, and location permissions in your device settings.
